Wainui-o-mata Development Limited formed in 1928. They planned to subdivide the valley for housing and to create a tunnel to connect it with Lower Hutt. The company sold their last block of land to Fletchers in 1967. In 1970 R.A. Brierley Investments acquired the total share capital of the company (Press, 8 August,1970).
