TypePhotographDescriptionPhoto of Haywards Hill huts built in 1951 to house 200 single Railway workers who were working on the electrification of the Hutt Valley line. The camp was built near the Woburn railways workshop to be closer for workers than the Gracefield camp. The huts at Haywards were double units.
Across the upper part of the picture you can see the embankment for the new track to come from Taita. The new line crossed the (1951) Taita highway. Accommodation was also for the influx of English, European and Dutch immigrants.
